LAHORE, Aug 27: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has no plan to challenge the eligibility of Asif Ali Zardari for the office of the president, says party chairman Raja Zafarul Haq.
“We have seen nothing concrete against him on the basis of which his candidacy could be challenged,” he said while talking to Dawn on Wednesday.
A PML-Q office-bearer said a decision on the subject would be taken on Thursday (today). He said the party had not decided as yet whether to challenge Zardari’s eligibility to take part in the presidential election.
Nomination papers of all presidential hopefuls would be scrutinised on Thursday.
There are three main candidates in the field: Asif Ali Zardari (PPP), Mushahid Husain Sayed (PML-Q) and Justice (retired) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui (PML-N).
If all members of the electoral college -- Senate, National Assembly and four provincial assemblies -- vote along their respective party lines, Zardari will easily win the election.
