KPT register narrow victory over PIA in PPFL
By Our Sports Reporter
KARACHI, Aug 26: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) edged past Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) 1-0 in the only Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) match played here at the Korangi Baloch Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The evenly-matched low-scoring encounter wasn’t without its exciting moments even though the first half remained goalless. Rough play prompted referee Iqbal Jr to award yellow cards to four players in the first session alone and as if that wasn’t enough, another five were graced the same way in the second half.
KPT took their time in settling down and taking advantage of a 10-player PIA side when the air men’s spearhead Shakir Lashari was made to leave the field in the 20th minute after receiving two yellow cards.
There were several missed chances but no goal scored with both PIA’s goalkeeper Bilal Rafiq and KPT’s Abdul Ghani on high alert. Each attempt was successfully thwarted until the 88th minute when KPT’s striker Abdul Rehman got past PIA’s defense to finally score the decider.
Wednesday’s fixtures: Pak Elektron Ltd v Army at Model Town Football Academy Ground, Lahore; Wapda v Khan Research Laboratories at Railway Stadium, Lahore; Punjab Medical College v Pakistan Television at PMC Ground, Faisalabad.
