Mosques told to arrange detectors

By Our Correspondent

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 26: The use of metal detectors to frisk the faithful entering mosques for prayers during Ramzan will be made compulsory for management committees of mosques in the Bahawalpur police range.

This was stated by regional police officer (RPO) Malik K. B. Awan while presiding over a meeting of the district administration committee here on Tuesday.

The RPO said that police would also provide metal detectors to some of the mosques. He directed the management committees to use only one entrance to identify the people.

DPO Azhar Hameed Khokhar said that the ulema should also be well aware of their surrounding atmosphere and keep an eye on the people entering the mosques.

FUNDS DEMANDED: MNA Engineer Baleeghur Rehman has requested the federal government to allocate substantial amount for the preservation of national heritage and the promotion of tourism in this historic region of the country.

In a statement, he regretted that the government during the current financial year budget, had allocated no funds for tourism uplift in this region.

Rehman said that Bahawalpur division was rich in historical treasure and as such special attention should be paid by the government towards its preservation and restoration to attract tourists from home and abroad.

In this connection, he also referred to the historical monuments of Uch Sharif and the remains of forts in Cholistan.

TROOPS: Troops of Bahawalpur Corp carried out rescue and relief operations in Bahawalnagar and Pakpattan districts to evacuate flood-affected people along river Sutlej, says an ISPR press release.
