Heera topples Nasir in ITF main round

ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: Heera Ashiq (Pakistan) created an upset defeating compatriot top seed Nasir Mushtaq on the opening day of main draw of the third ITF Pakistan International Junior Tennis Championship at PTF Tennis Complex on Monday.

Heera trounced Nasir in straight sets winning it 6-4, 6-2.

Twenty three matches were decided on the opening day of championship.

In the days second fixture Shikhar Kapur (India) also caused an upset when he eliminated seventh seed Mohammad Waqas Malak (Pakistan) in straight sets winning it 6-4,6-3.

Vaidik Munshaw (India) displayed a good game when he outplayed Bai Dong Du (China) and winner of second leg without much resistance 6-3,6-1. Samir Iftikhar (Pakistan) won his encounter against Thai player Rittichai Somroop in a well contested three set match by 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. All the remaining seeded players won their matches in straight sets.

In the girls singles event Meheq Khokhar (Pakistan) qualified for the second round defeating Alysha Razvi (India) 6-3,1-2 (Ret.). Saadgi Rajani (India) beat Ushna Suhail (Pakistan) in another good match of the day in three sets 6-3,1-6,6-4.
