Samad, Zeeshan steer NWFP to victory

LAHORE, Aug 25: PIA, NWFP Whites, Army, Railways, Pakistan Steel, Police, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Navy entered the quarter-finals of the 28th national Junior hockey championship on Monday.
Fine hat tricks by strikers Abdul Samad and Zeeshan Tariq helped NWFP Whites defeat Balochistan Colours 6-3.
Balochistan led 2-1 at half time but faltered in the second session as NWFP Whites recovered to win.
Zeeshan scored in the 25th, 40th and 63rd minute while Samad hit the board in the 51st, 56th and 66th minute. For the losers Saleem Ahmad struck twice in the 10th and 66th minute while Sattar Khan added one goal in the 23rd minute.
Four-goal Shahbaz Ahmad and three by Zaheer Ahmad helped PIA crush Islamabad 10-1 after leading the half time 2-1. Shahbaz sounded the board in the 42nd, 57th, 59th and 60th minute. Zaheer Ahmad contributed goals in the 24th, 54th, 70th minute. Amir Shahzad (38th), Azlan Khan (56th) and Adeel (14th) are the other scorers for the winners.
Abdul Basit scored consolation goal for the losers in the 25th minute.
Four goals by Arif Ullah powered NWFP to flatten Balochistan Whites 10-2. He scored in the 12th, 25th, 30th and 57th minute. Mohammad Bilal (60th, 63rd), Bilal Khan (30th, 50th) and Bilal Ahmad (9th), Ajmal Rashid (2nd) were the scorers.
Ajmal Rashid scored both for the losers in the 29th and 47th minutes.
Nine-goal Mohammad Usman steered Navy to a thumping 17-0 triumph over Sindh. Navy led the half time 9-0.
Usman found the net in the 6th, 9th, 13th, 21st, 25th, 33rd, 46th, 62nd, 69th minute to steal the show. Zeeshan Akram (4th, 22nd, 55th)M. Haroon (32nd, 42nd),
Ahmad Faheem Rao (43rd, 60th),M. Tahir (54th) all played role in Sindh mauling.
Punjab Whites and Pakistan Steel held to 4-4 draw.
For Punjab Mudassar Ibrar (38th, 48th), Farhan Ali (21st) and Nagman Ahmad (26th) were the scorers. For the Mills, Mohammad Imran (31st, 56th) Zubair (7th) and Mohammad Imran Junior (34th) were the scorers.
