‘Encounter’ killing: 240 booked for protesting
By Our Correspondent
GUJRANWALA, Aug 24: Over 240 protesters, who threw traffic out of gear on the GT Road to protest the killing of a man in a police ‘encounter’ three days ago, were booked under the terrorism act and other offences here on Sunday.
Reports said that Liaquat and his friend were on their way by a motorcycle when the police had signalled them to stop, but they tried to speed away.
At this, the police fired at them, killing Liaquat on the spot. But the police claimed that he died of his own pistol.
Sabzi Mandi police have registered a case against protesters, 40 of them nominated including the heirs of the deceased. Police have arrested five of the ‘accused’ so far.
TWO SHOT DEAD: The son of a police sub-inspector and his friend were shot dead on Saturday night by unidentified assailants in Spal Colony, Wazirabad.
