China’s Dong wins boys’ singles
ISLAMABAD, Aug 23: Bai Dong Du of China won the boys’ singles title by defeating second seed India’s S.V. Abhishek in the final of the second ITF Pakistan International Junior tennis championships at the PTF Tennis Complex on Saturday.
In the first set, the score equalled at 3-3 but Dong Du took the winning lead by hitting some cross-court shots.
He won the first set 6-3 by playing strong and steady game from the baseline.
In the second set, Dong Du took 3-0 lead but Abhishek fought back and levelled the score 3-3.
The Chinese player changed his strategy and started attacking. He won the second set 6-3.
By winning the championship, Dong Du received 30 valuable ITF world ranking points whereas Abhishek got 20.
In the girls’ singles three-set final, Thailand’s Luksika Kumkhum beat Shweta Rana of India 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Kumkhum won the first set 6-4 after breaking the ninth game of Shweta.
In the second set, the score equalled at 5-5. Shweta played some good shorts and won it 7-5.
Kumkhum displayed a good technical game from 0-3 down to bounce back to win the third set 6-3.
She received 30 ITF world ranking points.
Later, in the evening, Kumkhum paring with Peeraya Charoensiris of Thailand won the doubles crown.
The duo hammered Sarah Mahboob (Pakistan) and Nilaya Tarmila (India) 6-3, 6-3.
Meanwhile, 10 matches were decided in the qualifying event for the third ITF Pakistan International Junior tennis championships.

Boys’ singles final: Bai Dong Du (China) bt S.V. Abhishek (India) 6-3, 6-3.
Girls’ singles final: Luksika Kumkhum (Thailand) bt Shweta Rana (India) 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Girls’ doubles final: Luksika Kumkhum / Peeraya Charoensiris (Thailand) bt Nilaya Terimela (India) / Sarah Mahboob (Pakistan) 6-3, 6-3.
Boys’ singles first qualifying round: Malik Abdur Rehman (Pakistan) bt Salaar Ahmed (Pakistan) 6-0, 6-0; Imran Khan
