MIRPURKHAS, Aug 23: A young man was released by the Sessions Court, Umerkot when produced before it on Friday after enduring police torture.

Kunri police tortured Usman Banglani during his detention. The court also ordered his medical examination and directed concerned policemen to appear before it on August 25.

Usman Banglani 20 told journalists in the Sessions Court Umerkot that few days back he was implicated in a theft case within the jurisdiction of Dhoronaro police. Later, he was handed over to Kunri police who kept him at various otaqs and also subjected him to torture. He was not kept in a police lock-up.

He said police staged a drama of his absconding, while demanding Rs1 lakh from his father and on failure threatened to show him killed in police encounter with dacoits. The old man was forced to pay Rs20,000 but police kept demanding the remaining amount before releasing him.

He said that his father submitted an application before the Sessions Court Umerkot which asked the Judicial Magistrate Kunri to conduct a raid and get him released. He said that he was produced in court which ordered his medical examination. It also ordered policemen to appear before court on August 25.

The boy showed marks of violence on his body. He thanked the Sessions Judge Umerkot for freeing him.

Foundation Day: Jamaat-i-Islami was formed on Aug 26, 1941 by Maulana Abul Aala Maudodi and consisted of 75 members with Rs74 in fund, said leader of the JI, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui. Later, it was spread to the whole of Islamic world, he said.

Speaking at the Foundation Day programme, he said a state based on the principles of Quran and Sunnah was the need of the time. He deplored the injustice being committed by applying British law in courts.

He said the JI was not a familial party but of Muslim representation, while revolutionary people were brought to its platform. The JI trains people to transformer their personality.
