NGO accused of embezzlement

By Our Correspondent

BADIN, Aug 23: A large number of villagers, activists of different social welfare organisations and members of the Badin Bachayo Action Committee took out a protest rally on Saturday to protest against the president of an NGO, Badin Rural Development Society (BRDS), for alleged misappropriation of funds the NGO obtained in the name of coastal people’s welfare.

The protesters were led by Faiz Udhayo, Mohammad Khan Samoon, Fayaz Abro and others.

They raised slogans against the president of BRDS, Dr Akash Ansari, and demanded an audit of funds used by the NGO. When the protesters reached near the local press club, they were confronted by the supporters of Dr Akash Ansari. However, the protesters lodged their complaint with the police.

Later, addressing a press conference, the protesters alleged that BRDS got huge funds from national and international donor organisations but the NGO did not utilise it properly.

They demanded of the higher authorities to check the assets of Dr Akash and other office-bearers of the NGO.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference, Dr Akash denied the allegations levelled against him and claimed that had his supporters not stopped the protesters near the press club they would have damaged his laboratory.
