NAWABSHAH: Gastroenteritis on the rise

NAWABSHAH, Aug 23: About 150 people have reportedly been admitted to the hospitals and health centres of the district for gastroenteritis during last 48 hours.

The number of gastroenteritis patients has shown a sudden increase in the district in the wake of recent rains. At least 100 patients suffering from the disease were admitted to the rural health centres of Qazi Ahmed, Doulatpur, Bandhi and Daur and large number of patients including children reported at Nawabshah Medical College Hospital and other medical centres of the city. hunger strike: Activists of Sindh Irrigation Muttahida Federation Union continued token hunger strike outside the press club on Saturday, to press the government for acceptance of their demands.

The strikers Ahmed Khan, Ashiq Hussain Khoso and Ali Nawaz told reporters that they had presented their demands to the chief engineer of Sukkur Barrage and superintending engineer of Hyderabad circle on July 28, which included jobs to the heirs of retired and deceased employees, allotment of vacant irrigation plots to employees, transfer of funds of lower employees to their district, promotions and reinstatement of sacked employees.

The officials had accepted the demands but later failed to implement them, they regretted and added they would continue struggle till the acceptance of demands.

DEMO: Activists of Motorcycle Rickshaw Union blocked road by parking rickshaws and held a demonstration outside the press club on Saturday in protest against excise police.

Mustafa Brohi, Waheed Rind and Faiz Mohammad Chandio said that excise police were not registering their vehicles on the pretext that registration of imported motorcycles was not allowed.

They said that police in a sudden move challaned more than 16 motorcycle rickshaws in the city without any reason.
