Seven killed in gunbattle

SRINAGAR: Three Indian soldiers and four militants were killed in a gunbattle near the Line of Control on Friday, the military said.

“The gunbattle erupted in Machil sector near the Line of Control,” Indian army spokesman Anil Kumar Mathur said.

“In the day-long fighting, three soldiers, including a colonel, were killed,” he said, adding four militants died in retaliatory fire in the mountainous area north of Srinagar. He said the fighting was continuing.—AFP
