Inquiry into torture against maid ordered

LARKANA, Aug 22: An inquiry has been ordered into the alleged torture of a teenage maid at the hands of her employer in Sachal Colony, Larkana.

The DIG Larkana, Cdr (R) Shoukat Shah on Friday tasked the DPO Qambar to probe into the matter. The DPO had been directed to register a case against the person was involved in torture, the DIG told Dawn.

DPO Parvez Umrani when contacted said that he had sent a police inspector to the village who could not find the family. When some journalists went to the village to validate the incidence, they were rebuffed by her mother and maternal uncle who did not even allow them to have a glimpse of the girl while disclosing that the girl had been sold for Rs85,000 in exchange for the marriage to one Akbar Sodhar. The marriage is to take place in four days. The girl was employed at the house of M. Isran.

It was learnt that the Sindh Minister for Women Development, Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto had asked the DIG Larkana to hold an inquiry into the alleged incident. Women police help should be sought if needed to reach the alleged victim for collecting facts, she said.

BODY: Decomposed body of an unmarried young girl, missing since Aug 1 from her home in Mir Khan Khoso village, was found in a watercourse on the outskirts of village on Friday.

Area people after spotting the body informed Sanjjar Bhatti police. It was handed over to the relatives and a case, on the compliant of Khatir Khan, uncle of the deceased girl, was registered against unidentified accused.
