KARACHI: Young man shot dead over personal enmity
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, Aug 21: A 28-year-old man was shot dead on Thursday in Model Colony allegedly by the younger brother of his sister’s husband over a personal grudge, police said.
They said Asim Ikram, son of Mohammed Ikram, was a video-shop owner in the vicinity and he was going back to his house in Tariq Bin Ziyad Housing Society in a rickshaw when unknown occupants of a car opened fire on him near the Pakistan Printing Press a little after midnight.
The police said the young man, who lived with his elder sister, Humaira wife of Arif Mahmood, was fatally wounded and he was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died shortly after arrival.
Hospital sources said the victim received two bullets in his chest from a point-blank range as both of them pierced his upper torso.
The police said the victim’s sister lodged a case (FIR-128/08) against Tariq Mahmood, the younger brother of her husband, and his unknown accomplices for the murder of her brother.
However, they said, no arrest was made in this connection. The police said suspect Tariq Mahmood was still untraceable and they had mounted a search for him.
They said the 0police took the rickshaw driver, Farhan, son of Waseem, into custody for questioning as no mark of bullet or stain of blood was present in his vehicle.
The police said the family hailed from Punjab.
They said the preliminary investigation into the case disclosed that suspect Tariq had suspected the victim of having illicit relationship with his wife, and this led to the killing.
