KARACHI: Two killed in road accidents

KARACHI, Aug 19: Two people were killed on Tuesday in separate road accidents, police and witnesses said.
Site police said a 30-year-old man was killed and his 26-year-old brother injured when their motorcycle was hit by a fast-moving minibus (JF-0842) of route Z-2 near Habib Bank Chowrangi.
The witnesses said the victims were knocked down by the minibus when it went out of the driver’s control while he overtook another vehicle.
They said one of the victims died instantly and the other was critically injured.
The victims were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital where Rehan, son of Saghir, was pronounced dead and his brother, Umair, was admitted for treatment.
Hospital sources, however, said Umair was in a stable condition as he had not received life-threatening injuries.
The police said the victims, residents of Bukhari Colony, Banaras, were workers at a textile unit in Site and were going to their factory on the motorcycle when they met the incident at around 9am.
They said the unknown driver of the minibus ran away immediately after the incident abandoning his vehicle which was later impounded by the police.
The police said a case against the unknown driver was registered for killing and injuring the two brothers by his reckless driving on the complaint of the victim’s cousin, Mohammed Zahid.
They said efforts were being made to track down the driver and the owner of the impounded vehicle.
Crushed to death
In another road tragedy, a 28-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a fast-moving coaster near Urdu Science College.
The victim was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was identified as Mohammed Saleem, son of Bakhshal, resident of Sindhi Para near Dalmia Cement Factory.
Aziz Bhatti police said the victim, a labourer, was crossing the road when the coaster (EB-0049) hit him.
They said the coaster driver, Ghulam Bari son of Mohammed Shafi, was arrested and booked in the case on the complaint of Irfan Ahmed Mashhoori, a relative of the victim.
The police said the victim was a wage earner and was on his way to find some work.
Killed over enmity
A 30-year-old man was shot dead in Goharabad near New Sabzi Mandi.
Sachal police said victim Mohammed Zubair Khan was a real estate broker and was killed by unknown attackers.
The police suspected a monetary dispute behind the murder.
Sources said the victim, resident of Khuda Ki Basti, was a worker of the Pakistan People’s Party in Gadap Town.
Bank looted
A gang of six bandits looted Rs732,870 from a NIB bank at Hasan Square.
Aziz Bhatti police registered a case against unknown culprits on the complaint of bank manager, Baber Hafeez.
The manager reported to the police that the gang entered the bank at around 11am, held the staff, guards and customers hostage at gunpoint, scooped up the money and decamped with the booty.
