KARACHI: Increased load-shedding
KARACHI, Aug 19: The Karachi Electric Supply Company continued with load-shedding to the tune of 200 MW and operated its generating units generally much below their installed capacity to save fuel on Tuesday.
Insiders said that the Bin Qasim power plant was generating only 795 MW instead of its supposed production of 1,160 MW, creating a shortfall during Monday night and Tuesday. Unit No.2 of the Bin Qasim thermal plant, as against its generating capacity of 175 MW, was producing just 80 MW, they said.
The KESC on Tuesday faced 200 MW shortfall and resorted to carrying out extra load-shedding to meet the city’s electricity demand.
Another reason for the extra load-shedding was the stoppage of power generation at the Defence Cogen Desalination Plant.—Our Reporter
