Next president from PPP: Bilawal
KARACHI, Aug 18: Pakistan People’s Party’s chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has hailed the resignation of President Pervez Musharraf and said that the next president will be from his party.
“After the martyrdom of my mother I said that democracy was the best revenge -- and today it was proved true,” the PPP chairman told media personnel at Karachi airport after flying in from Dubai on Monday.
“Someone from the Pakistan People’s Party will be the next president of Pakistan but I don’t know who that will be.” He said he was not directly involved in the process of selection of the next president because he was away for his studies in the United Kingdom.
He said the biggest hurdle in the way of democracy had been removed.
“I am sure that we can resolve all the issues of the country. The People’s Party wants an independent judiciary and I am sure that we will move forward on this issue,” he said.
“Indeed, democracy is the greatest revenge and we are very proud of our country,” he said.
Bilawal Bhutto was received at the airport by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Home Minister Zulfikar Mirza.
Later, he left for Larkana.—Agencies
Our correspondent in Larkana adds: Talking to journalists at the Bhutto House in Naudero, Bilawal Bhutto said it appeared that his mother’s mission had been accomplished and now the country would move on the path of prosperity and strength. He said he was happy to see Pakistan as a democratic country.
The PPP chairman went from the Moen-jo-Daro airport to Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto amid tight security arrangements. He visited graves of Benazir Bhutto, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Mir Murtaza Bhutto and Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto.
