KARACHI, Aug 18: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) beat Pakistan Television (PTV) 3-2 and Habib Bank Limited (HBL) and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) drew 2-2 in the two Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played on Monday evening.
The first match between KPT and PTV at the CDGK Stadium saw KPT’s winger Abdul Rehman becoming the league’s leading scorer, of seven goals, when he slotted home two of the goals in the winners’ tally of three.
The first goal though was scored by PTV when they were awarded a penalty kick after Rehman accidentally touched a cross pass near the goal with his hand.
The kick was taken and converted easily by PTV’s skipper Naimatullah in the 22nd minute.
As if to make up for his mistake, Rehman then got into action for KPT. The 28th minute saw him sending the ball straight into the goal past PTV’s keeper Indaryas Masih while converting midfielder Zahid Ahmed’s cross pass. This was followed by his creating an opening for striker Shahid Saleem in the 45th minute which the striker was able to utilise easily, giving KPT a 2-1 lead at interval.
The 67th minute saw the port men scoring their third goal and Rehman getting his second through solo effort.
Meanwhile, PTV got their second goal in injury time through their striker Mohammad Jamil’s header.
The other match between HBL and NBP at Korangi Baloch Stadium saw HBL scoring in the 17th minute through their midfielder Mohammad Habib. NBP leveled in the 25th minute through their striker Farooq Shah’s solo effort. The score was 1-1 at interval.
The next session saw both teams scoring one each again with NBP taking the lead in the 49th minute through striker Jamil Ahmed off Mahmood Khan’s pass. HBL’s leveler came in the 69th minute through their striker Zakir Lashari.
