Pakistan’s Siddique Umar finishes 49th
BEIJING, Aug 17: Pakistan’s Siddique Umar finished a disappointing 49th among 51 shooters in the Air Rifle 50 metre three position shooting qualification competition of the Olympic Games at the Shooting Range on Sunday.
Firing in prone standing and kneeling position, Siddique mustered the score of 1,116 after rounds of 390, 359 and 367.
Siddique had a sterling start with fantastic round of 390 with scores of 95, 99, 98, 98 but failed to maintain his marksmanship and precision and faded away in the next two rounds.
Looking under pressure and out of form, Siddique, who is specialist in three-position event, collected 359 points in the second round.
He, however, slightly improved with 367 points in the third and final round with scores of 95, 92, 88 and 92.
“My opening round turned out to be my best with handsome score of 390 but I couldn’t maintain the rhythm,” he told reporters later.
Slovakian Rajmond Debevec finished on the top in the qualification round by accumulating 1,176 points with rounds of 399, 386 and 391.
Matthew Emmons of the US was second at 1,175 with rounds of 399, 389 and 387 while Jury Sukhorukov of Ukraine was third with total score of 1,174 having rounds of 398, 384 and 392.—APP
