Raza qualifies for main round: ITF tennis

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17: Pakistan’s Raza Zohair outclassed Malaysia’s Lee Jason Michael in straight sets in the boys’ final qualifying round of the ITF Pakistan International Junior tennis championship at the PTF Tennis Complex on Sunday.

Raza has now qualified for the main round.

Another Pakistani, Mushtaq Abid suffered humiliating defeat against China’s Lin Kai Jie in the same round.

Thirty-two players participated in the qualifying round. The main draw of boys and girls will start from Monday.

Boys’ singles final qualifying round:

Yehezkia Revel (India) bt Runglertmaneepong Borachit (Thailand) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2; Lin Kai Jie (China) bt Mushtaq Abid (Pakistan) 6-4, 6-1; Du Bai Dong (China) bt Chaudhry Armaan (India) 1-6, 6-2, 6-2; Raza Zohair (Pakistan) bt Lee Jason Michael (Malaysia) 6-0, 6-0.

Boys’ singles second qualifying round:

Yehezkia Revel (India) bt Sriram Gautham (India) 2-6, 6-3, 6-2; Runglertmaneepong Borachit (Thailand) bt Bajwa Mohammad (Pakistan) 6-1, 6-0; Lin Kai Jie (China) bt Abdur Rehman Malik (Pakistan) 6-2, 6-1; Mushtaq Abid (Pakistan) bt Abdul Rehman (Pakistan) 6-0, 6-0; Chaudhry Armaan (Inida) bt Jibran-ul-Haq (Pakistan) 6-1, 7-6(5); Du Bai Dong (China) bt Safi Imran Khan (Pakistan) 6-0, 6-1; Lee Jason Michael (Malaysia) bt Zain Homaeer (Pakistan) 7-5, 6-4; Raza Zohair (Pakistan) bt Zubair M.
