KARACHI: Class-XI admission process likely to miss deadline
By Azizullah Sharif
KARACHI, Aug 17: The admission committee formed under the Centralized Admission Policy-2008 (CAP) is unlikely to complete the process of Class-XI admissions to the city’s government colleges by the end of the current month and, as such, the commencement of regular classes may also have to be delayed.
The reason seems to be an inordinate delay, on the part of the CAP admission committee, in announcing the last date for the submission of placement forms by candidates, besides the delayed issuance of marks sheets of Class X annual examinations by the Board of Secondary Education Karachi.
Sources in the directorate-general (colleges), Sindh, said that although it had fixed Aug 20 as a tentative date for banks to issue the placement forms, it had deliberately not announced the last date for the submission of the forms, realising that the marks sheets of the Matric students who have appeared in the examinations-2008 had not been issued until Aug 5, when the Class-XI admission process had begun.
“Even today, we are unable to announce the last date for the submission of the placement forms because all those who had appeared in their Technical School Certificate Part-II annual examination-2008 are yet to receive their marks sheets, a copy of which has to be submitted along with the placement form for the admission to the Class-XI,” they added.
While the Board of Secondary Education Karachi has issued marks sheets of Matric (Science and General) groups annual examination-2008, the Sindh Board of Technical Education has announced the Matric results on Sunday (Aug 17) and the candidates are yet to receive their marks sheets.
The sources said that the CAP committee would not be able to set the last date for the submission of the placement forms until Matric students of all the educational boards had received their marks sheets.
“In fact, the admission committee can undertake its responsibility of providing admission to those seeking admission to the Class-XI only after receiving placement forms, along with marks sheets, of all applicants. It will take at least a week to complete the process of placement in accordance with their eligibility and after verification of
their marks sheets from the educational boards concerned,” they added.
It may be pointed out that the process of admissions to Class-XII is still under way in many city colleges although it was supposed to be completed by July 31.
