Over 100 held for touting

BEIJING, Aug 15: Beijing police detained 110 people, including at least one foreign national, on Friday for touting Olympic tickets near Games venues, state media reported.

The touting crackdown on Friday at venues and metro exits also saw 340 tickets seized, the Xinhua news agency report said, adding the action was partly in response to the “many complaints from the public.”

A Dutch national was found selling 24 tickets at a price 10 times higher than the face value near the ‘Water Cube’ National Aquatic Center, the report said, quoting Shi Weiping, a police officer with the Beijing Public Security Bureau.

The report did not say how many of the touters arrested were foreign.—AFP
