LAHORE, Aug 15: The Punjab Higher Education Department has begun preparing and moving summaries to the chief minister for the replacement of top officials serving Intermediate and Secondary Education boards in Punjab on deputation for many years.

Different officials serving against the posts of chairmen, secretaries and controllers of examinations on deputation basis completed their tenures and got extensions consequently.

In some cases, officials held deputation posts for as long as six years. Also, the post of Lahore board chairman has been lying vacant since the termination of services of the former chairman as part of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s decision of terminating the services of reemployed officials in different government departments.

The Punjab Higher Education secretary said the department had finalised a few proposals and summaries were being sent to the chief minister for approval. self-finance: The Punjab University has received instructions from the government for abolition of the self-finance scheme. The university is planning to put the matter before the syndicate for a final decision.

The decision of introducing the self-finance scheme was implemented following approval of the syndicate.

Sources told Dawn that the university would face financial crunch if the scheme would be abolished. They said the university had earned Rs88 million from the self-finance scheme last year.
