Dadu paralysed after newsman’s murder

DADU, Aug 15: A complete strike was observed in Dadu town on Friday to protest murder of TV journalist, Mohammad Azeem Leghari and his two relatives five days back at Cinema chowk Dadu.

All bazaars, including Rai Bazaar, jewellers, cloths market, main trade centres and the markets remained closed.

A large number of people, including activists of political parties took out a protest rally from district council building and staged demonstration outside the DPO office to protest inordinate delay in arrest of the murderers of Mohammad Azeem Leghari. They were led by President, Sindh Journalist Foundation Jamshoro and Dadu district, Ghous Bux Jhatiyal and other senior journalists Saeed Ahmed Memon, Nizamuddin Shaikh, Pir Bux Babar and Abdul Fatah Shaikh.

Nizamuddin Shaikh condemned the Dadu police of their failure to arrest the accused nominated in the FIR and warned that the journalists would held protests throughout Sindh on August 18 and later in Islamabad and Karachi.

Mr Jhatiyal accused the Dadu police of non-cooperation and pointed his fingers towards a feudal. He appealed to international and national organisations to help journalists of Dadu in this matter. He regretted that no politician either from the ruling or opposition party offered their condolences with the deceased journalist’ s family.

They also observed a token hunger strike outside press club against the police.

However, district nazim, Sukkur Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, arrived at press club, offered fateha and condoled with the journalists.

SHOT DEAD: A woman, Zarina wife of Ghulam Shabbir Rind was shot dead by her relatives on the pretext of karo-kari in Mohammad Khan Rind village within the jurisdiction of Khairo Dero police station taluka Sehwan on Thursday.

Her relatives caught one villager Manzoor Khoso in her house along with a TT pistol. They handed him over to Khairo Dero police. Her husband Ghulam Shabbir Rind informed the police that he suspected his wife of illicit relations with Manzoor Khoso. She had sought protection in the house of a local feudal.

Relatives undertook before the wadera that they would not kill her and he handed over Zarina to her husband Ghulam Shabbir. As soon as she was brought to her house, she was shot dead by the family members. Her body was brought to taluka hospital Sehwan and handed over to family members after autopsy. Her brother, Allah Rakhio, registered a case against three persons.

ELECTROCUTED: Two family members were electrocuted in village Mian-Ji-Kandi, taluka Dadu. A villager Khamiso Khan was electrocuted by 11kv wires when he was passing through a thoroughfare. His nephew Ali Gull tried to rescue Khamiso Khan who was also electrocuted. They were pronounced dead when they were taken to hospital in serious condition.
