Man commits suicide

RAWALPINDI, Aug 15: A 35-year-old man committed suicide by shooting himself with in Bhara Kahu on Friday, police said.

Raja Zahid Mehmood, a building contractor, had been in distress as his family suspected him of contracting another marriage. Police said on Friday, Zahid went to his room and committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest.

Meanwhile, a cloth merchant was robbed of Rs530,000 after being shot and injured by two robbers, who intercepted him near Chandni Chowk on Friday.

The injured victim, Mohammad Hanif, was taken to the Rawalpindi General Hospital where he was stated to be in stable condition. Mr Hanif told the police that he was getting out of a commercial bank after drawing the cash when two motorcyclists wearing masks held him at gunpoint. He said the gunmen fired at him and snatched the cash.

Auto thieves deprived six people of their vehicles in different parts of the city on Thursday, police said.

Mohammad Naveed Anjum told the police that four robbers snatched his car at gunpoint in Westridge area. Afzal Khan’s was stolen from the Airport police limits, while Saifur Rehman’s car was taken away from New Town area. Amir Rashid’s motorcycle was stolen from the R.A. Bazaar and Arshad Mehmood’s motorcycle from Ganjmandi. Abdul Jabbar’s dumper truck was snatched by six gunmen in Taxila. —Staff Reporter
