Dust storm cuts Balochistan’s air links
By Our Staff Correspondent
QUETTA, Aug 13: A dust storm has been raging over Balochistan for three days, reducing visibility to a few yards and causing suspension of all flights to and from the provincial capital.
“No flight has landed in Quetta for three days,” a PIA official said. He said that all flights to Quetta from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad had to be cancelled because of poor visibility.
The Metrological Department said the dusty weather would persist till Thursday afternoon.
“Visibility will improve in the Quetta valley after 3pm on Thursday,” director of the regional computer data processing centre Saifullah Shami told Dawn.
He said that the duststorm had been caused by heat and a low pressure system over the valley, which covered a large swathe.
