KARACHI: Independence Day functions

KARACHI, Aug 12: Preparations to celebrate the Independence Day on Aug 14 are in full swing at almost all the educational institutions across the city.

The University of Karachi, all its affiliated colleges and the NED University of Engineering and Technology will remain closed on Aug 14 to mark the event.

The University of Karachi will organise a flag-hoisting ceremony on its premises.

The faculty members and students will assemble in front of the university’s administration building at 7.30am.

After recitation from the Holy Quran, the vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Qasim Raza Siddiqui, will hoist the national flag at

8am and will later address the gathering.

Similarly, the NED University is also organizing a ceremony at its campus to celebrate the event.

Sindh Madressahtul Islam

The Sindh Madressahtul Islam, the alma mater of

Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad

Ali Jinnah will also celebrate the Indepen-dence Day by organising a function on its premises.

The ceremony will be held in the auditorium of the institution and will be presided over by its principal, retired Lt-Col Taj Mohammad Memon.

Students will deliver speeches on the significance of the Independence Day.

A tableau, national songs and skits will also be presented.
