SUKKUR, Aug 11: Hundreds of irrigation employees staged a protest demonstration at Sukkur Barrage and outside the press club here on Monday to press for acceptance of their demands.

The demands included reinstatement of sacked employees, restoration of job quota of sons of deceased employees and promotions.

The demonstrators consisted of irrigation employees from Sukkur, Dadu, Moro, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Larkana and other areas who were led by Sindh Irrigation Employees Muttahida Federation Secretary General Iqbal Ahmed.

They staged a protest demonstration at Sukkur barrage, while shouting slogans against the government. Later, they also staged a sit-in outside the press club.

The protestors told journalists that they were demanding restoration of job quota, promotions of employees, restoration of sacked employees and evacuation of irrigation department plots occupied by outsiders. They said that if their demands were not met, they would stage similar sit-ins in Dadu, Hyderabad and finally in Karachi.
