KARACHI: ‘Activists’ remanded

KARACHI, Aug 11: A judicial magistrate, East, remanded four suspects, stated to be the activists of the Sunni Tehrik, in judicial custody till Aug 20.

The suspects, Akthar Ali, Noor Haseeb, Akmal Hussain and Ali Anwar, were arrested on Aug 8 from the Korangi Industrial Area.

Some cases pertaining to robbery were also registered at the New Town and the City Courts police stations against them.

Defaulter’s suicide case

The additional district and sessions judge-4, Central, supplied under Section 265-C of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) the copy of statements and documents to the accused in a case pertaining to the death of a bank defaulter and adjourned the hearing till Aug 25 for indictment.

The prosecution said that 26-year-old Mohammad Tufail Shah who had defaulted on a loan, had committed suicide on April 27 by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his house in New Karachi.

Earlier that day a loan recovery team of the relevant bank had visited Tufail’s house and had reportedly misbehaved with his mother and sister, which caused him immense stress and depression.

The police arrested the suspect, Sheikh Mohammad Atif, on May 2.
