FAISALABAD, Aug 10: A member of the Punjab assembly (MPA) plans to move a motion in the Punjab Assembly seeking immediate transfer of police inspectors linked with kidnap-for-ransom cases, Dawn has learnt.

Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) MPA Shafiq Gujjar told Dawn he was collecting the record of all “criminal” police officers posted in the district for action against them.

He said he along with other MPAs would move a motion in the Punjab Assembly seeking action against the “criminals” police officers.

Inspectors Alamdar Shah, Rana Waseem Faraz, Rana Attaur Rehman and sub-inspector Rana Atif were expelled from the district in 2005 for their involvement in the kidnap of five-year-old Shahian Mubashir. The four officials are now serving in the district.

The recent weeks saw an increase in kidnap-for-ransom cases in the district.

Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry executive member Waheed Khaliq said industrialists already in the face of business losses were concerned about their security after threats of kidnap-for-ransom gangs. However, he praised Deputy Inspector General Muhammad Aslam Tareen for his support to businessmen.

Sources said MPA Gujjar had resisted the appointment of Alamdar Shah as Saddar station house officer (SHO).

Mr Shafiq talked to the city police officer (CPO) and informed him about Mr Shah’s involvement in the kidnap case. The CPO, sources said, later posted Mr Shah as Mansoorabad SHO.

Sources said Mr Shah after serving in Jhang, was posted in Faisalabad after the approval from then RPO Talat Mehmood.

A police officer said most of the “criminals” police officers were backed by politicians. Police Department sources said a probe into the posting of the four officials had been initiated.
