KARACHI: Afaq paroled to attend father’s funeral

KARACHI, Aug 10: The jailed chief of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi, Afaq Ahmed, was paroled on Sunday to attend the funeral of his father, who passed away after a protracted illness.

“The government has released him on temporary parole on his family’s request to enable him to attend the funeral,” special secretary (home) Kamran Dost said.

Heavy contingent of police escorted the Haqiqi chief to his Landhi home from the central prison at 5pm. He would be taken back to the prison at 1am.

He was arrested in April 2004 in an operation launched against his party. —Staff Reporter
