NRSP to start work in Diamer

GILGIT, Aug 9: Northern Areas Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Mohammad has assured the people of Diamer that the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) would launch work for socio-economic development in the area.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the three-day Babusar Polo Festival, he said the government was fully aware of the problems of the masses and would take all measures to resolve them.

He made special mention of Diamer-Bhasha Dam and said all-out efforts were being made to resolve the grievances of the affected people.

In accordance with the demand of the public, he said, the officials concerned would be directed to set up a bus stand in Diamer, adding the government would also look into the demands for subdivisional status to Darel and Tangir.

In the final match of the polo tournament, Chilas defeated Gilgit by 11 to five goals. Force Commander Northern Areas Maj-Gen Muzamil Hussain was the chief guest on the occasion.

Eight teams participated in the tournament organised by the local administration and the tourism department. A number of other activities were also arranged on the occasion.
