KARACHI, Aug 9: Army beat Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) 3-1 while Pakistan Steel defeated Pakistan Television (PTV) 2-1 in the two Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played on Saturday evening.

The first match between Army and KESC at the People’s Sports Complex saw all the goals coming in the first half only.

Army’s striker Shakil Yousuf scored the first (9th min) and the third (45th) while the second goal was presented to the winners by KESC’s defender Umer Farooq when he accidentally sent the ball into his own goal in his hurry to get it away from the opponent’s strikers in the 17th minute.

KESC’s consolation goal also came in the first half through their winger Abdul Ghafoor in the 41st minute. The 3-1 score at halftime remained unchanged till the final blowing of the whistle.

After a goalless first half, the other match between Pakistan Steel and PTV at the Pakistan Steel Ground saw Steel’s striker Fazal Hussain score first on solo effort in the 53rd minute followed by the next through a penalty kick converted by their striker Mohammad Akram in the 80th minute. PTV could also only manage a consolation goal two minutes before the final whistle through their striker Mohammad Shazad.

Sunday’s fixtures: National Bank of Pakistan v Khan Research Laboratories at Korangi Baloch Stadium at 5.30pm. Karachi Port Trust v Punjab Medical College at CDGK Stadium at 5.30pm.
