Remy Martin set to rock rivals

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Aug 9: Three-year-old chestnut colt Remy Martin looks certain to sprint to glory when the Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Making amends, the then odds-on-favourite Remy Martin returned with flying colours in the last outing on July 20 in style by eight lengths but the race was cancelled by the racing committee on account of false start. In the preceding race, Remy Martin was denied a hat-trick by Sweet Girl.

On her current form and fitness, he enjoys top billing in the division I class VII, the fifth race on card, and can win on mere asking.

He is likely to be chased by colt John Player and filly Leopard Of Arab for places among nine runners who are to vie for honours.

The feature event where a small field of six horses is in fray seems to be a two-horse race between filly Crown Prince and mare Afroze Jehan.

Both have come close in handicap and a better rider will turn the tide either way. However, Crown Prince is our fancy and likely to make amends.

Five-year-old dark bay mare Stormy Kiss, the stable mate of Crown Prince, if backed by connection, can overcome the two rivals.

Three-year-old dark bay filly Baby John is on course to make it two on the trot by claiming the supporting sixth race.

Like the feature event, six horses are to face the starter barring last minute withdrawls in the race.

Baby John was sprinted home by five lengths in the last run on July 27.

Colt Speed Of Arab and bay Manan Prince should fight it out for the places.

Three-year-old bay filly Bullet Of Arab is poised to open her account by overcoming five opponents in the fourth race.

Those who come in the reckoning for places are bay Lucky Gem and chestnut Hamza Joy.

Spanzer, a 10-year-old bay mare, is tipped to pick the opener, while mares Raj Kumari and Queen Of Kinjher are set to shine in the next two races with a repeat performance.
