Erosion posesthreat to Badani town
By Our Correspondent
SUKKUR, Aug 9: Badani town is facing a constant threat due to the erosion caused by river Indus at the 11th mile of Katcha Kharif (KK) protective bund, 15 kilometers away from Kashmore on Saturday.
The Indus was causing erosion at the 11th mile of KK protective bund, due to which a portion of 350 feet has reportedly been washed away, thus endangering Badani town and its surrounding villages and especially village Bahadur Khan Nahar, which is situated close to the protective bund.
In this connection some of the villagers, including schoolteacher Liaqat Nahar and others told Kashmore-based journalists accused the irrigation officials of negligence, who according to them, did nothing to strengthen the embankments of the protective bund.
When contacted the executive engineer of Begari Sindh Feeder, Mohammad Hassan Memon, said that there was nothing to worry as the portion which was eroded by the river, had been fortified with dumping of stone.
He said that the protective bund could now bear the pressure of water.
Besides this, he said that heavy machinery was available at the site and round the clock vigilance was being carried out to cope up with any emergency.
