LAHORE, Aug 8: The Punjab Assembly was told on Friday the government would install 30 more water filtration plants in various parts of the province to raise the number of these plants to 146.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said this in response to an adjournment motion presented in the house by Sheikh Allauddin. He said a plan had been prepared to reactivate out of order water filtration plants and maintain these.

He said the local government and rural development department would initiate an inquiry into wrongdoings of the firms responsible for installation of these plants.

Allauddin said private firms which installed these plants had refused to maintain these, while most of these plants were not working. He said these firms, in connivance with the officials of tehsil/town municipal administrations, handed over these plants to their operators in back dates to evade warranty claims.

To another adjournment motion by Allauddin, acting speaker Rana Mashhood ruled that alternative place should be provided for the free health club working at Jinnah Garden.

Allauddin said the health club had been providing free services to people for the past many decades, but the administration removed it “without any rationale”.

The speaker pended Rifat Sultana Dar’s privilege motion against the director general of the Faisalabad Development Authority for Monday after the law minister sought time to get answer from the official. —APP
