LAHORE, Aug 6: Punjab Local Government and Community Development Minister Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa has said the details of corruption and plundering of the tehsil municipal administrations will be exposed before the masses and the media.

Presiding over a meeting of the officials of local government and finance departments here on Wednesday, Khosa said such a step would expose the previous government. “Those involved in misuse of public funds would be brought to justice,” he added.

He said the 21 TMAs, involved in corruption of more than Rs200 million, had been issued notices by the Provincial Local Government Commission, which had directed them to submit their replies within seven days about the financial irregularities pointed out in the Local Fund Audit.

In cases of recovery of the looted money, he said, legal action against the guilty might be withheld.

Finance minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, who also attended the meeting, directed the finance and local fund audit officials to re-verify the financial embezzlements of the TMAs and reconcile the figures of plundered amount accordingly so that the same could be presented before the media and the masses. He said those who appropriated the funds in fact deprived the masses of the provision of basic facilities and, thus, they were national culprits.
