SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 6: Patwaris in Sheikhupura, Nankana and Ferozewala observed a pen-down strike on Wednesday and later staged sit-in in front of the offices of DCOs and DDORs against what they said the step-motherly behaviour of the Punjab government. Speaking to the protesters, patwari leaders Rana Iftikhar, Mushtaq Gacha, and others urged the chief minister to consider their genuine demands.

Patwaris were demanding 20 per cent quota for them in naib tehsildar vacancies. Their other demands included end to ACE’s `high-handedness’, and award of grade-9 and TA/DA allowance.

SUICIDE: One Zareena Bibi committed suicide by taking poisonous pills after quarrelling with her husband on Wednesday.

Narang Mandi police are investigating.

TAKEN AWAY: Six dacoits broke into the house of Farman Ali at Kalla village and took away dozens of cattle after loading them on two trucks at gunpoint on Wednesday.

Factory Area police are looking into the matter.
