College staff take the field against student leaders
By Our Correspondent
LARKANA, Aug 6: The teaching and non-teaching staff of the Government Degree College of Ratodero led by its principal met the DSP of Ratodero on Wednesday and complained to him about occupation of college’s staff rooms by students belonging to different political parties.
Principal Prof Mumtaz Solangi told journalists after the meeting that the leaders of Jeay Sindh Students Federation, Sindh National Front and Sindh People’s Students Federation (Shaheed Bhutto) had set up their offices in the college’s staff room and girls’ common room and refused to vacate them.
The college staff had given an application to the DSP asking him to take action against the unruly students but the DSP had stressed on naming the student leaders in the application, which “we will give him on Thursday,” he said, adding that the students had also locked his office and insulted the staff.
The college staff had protested on Tuesday against the students’ organisations and called for action, he said, expressing regret that neither police nor the education department had moved against student leaders despite having been informed about the situation.
Prof Saleem Korai, principal of the Government Degree College of Larkana and president of Larkana region of Principals Association convened a meeting of the association on Wednesday to discuss the situation.
He warned the students action could not be tolerated and urged Sindh education minister, secretary of education and regional director of colleges to take severe action against “the extortionists” who were out to spoil academic atmosphere in the province. The association would not sit idle till a concrete action had been taken against the unruly student organisations, he said.
