KHAIRPUR, Aug 5: The parliamentary secretary for health, Dr Mehreen Bhutto, has said that it must be investigated that why some children were left without being given anti-polio vaccine during the anti-polio campaign over the last many years.

Dr Mehreen Bhutto said that detection of polio cases in Sindh and other parts of the country was deplorable and it must be investigated where negligence was committed.

She was addressing a radio news conference at Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation Khairpur on Tuesday.

She said it was regrettable that some doctors were running private clinics during their duty hours at government hospitals.

Dr Mehreen Bhutto said that she had visited the Civil Hospital and the Lady Willington Hospital Khairpur on Monday and found that despite spending huge funds on its repair the building of the civil hospital was in shambles and a new building should be constructed for the hospital.

She expressed surprise that the operation theatre of the Lady Willington hospital, which is the only hospital in district Khairpur for women, was not in working condition.

She said if lady doctors were not available on duty at night in Lady Willington Hospital, such practice was condemnable and steps should be taken to ensure availability of lady doctors.

She said there was a dire need of anti-snake bite and anti-rabies vaccines in the district and added that she had moved the federal secretary health for availability of these vaccines.

She appealed to the chief minister of Sindh to pay special attention to health department in his home district.
