By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 5: The Enquiries and Anti-Corruption Establishment, Sindh on Tuesday arrested a police constable and registered a case against an inspector for allegedly demanding a bribe from the family members of an arrested person for his release and exoneration from false cases.

“An FIR (25/2008) has been registered against Inspector Mohammad Shahid of the Soldier Bazaar police station after a complaint was received against him from Ghalib Shah that he was demanding Rs50,000 for the release of his son, Mohammad Ali Shah, proved true,” said an official.

He said that after receiving the complaint the department found two cases against the complainant’s son fake and devised a strategy to arrest the accused inspector red-handed under the supervision of Inspector Haq Nawaz.

“The police officer asked the complainant to visit a restaurant on Garden Road with cash,” he added. “However, he did not come to the place and sent his subordinate police constable Shah Hasan to collect the bribe money, who was caught red-handed.”

Though Inspector Shahid was still at large, Aftab Mujaddid Asran, Deputy Director Anti-corruption said, adding that the accused would not be able to escape.
