Make-or-break Asif-Nawaz talks today

LEADERS of the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-N met separately on Monday to prepare for what is being described by political observers as ‘make-or-break’ talks between PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday on issues that have practically paralysed their coalition government. Although neither of the parties appeared to be willing to change its stance on the crucial issue of reinstatement of the deposed judges, insiders indicated that efforts would still be made to mend their tottering relations and save the alliance. While Mr Sharif avoided setting a deadline for restoration of the pre-Nov 3 judiciary, the PPP indicated it would be prepared to work out a timeframe for impeachment of President Musharraf, issue dear to the PML-N.
