KARACHI: Higher grades for teachers

KARACHI, Aug 3: Sindh Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq has said that the government is considering to allocate higher grades to teachers in order to improve their quality of life.

He said this while addressing the 36th anniversary of the Sindh Graduates Association (SGA) at the Arts Council here on Saturday night.

The minister noted that teachers’ grades in Sindh were low as compared to those of their counterparts in Punjab. Steps would be taken to bring both of them at a par, he added.

The minister pointed out that 6,000 to 7,000 teachers were appointed recently while recruitment of as many teachers would be made soon. “As many as 15,000 schools are lying closed in the country and more than 7,000 of them are in Sindh alone,” he said, urging the Sindh Graduates Association to come forward and manage these schools.

Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Sassui Palijo, Vice-Chancellor of the Sindh University Prof Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui and SGA chairman Suleman Shaikh also spoke.—PPI
