Pak Edition all set for second LRC win
By Aftab Gilani
LAHORE, Aug 2: Three-year-old bay colt Pak Edition, who swept an easy victory in his last outing, looks all set to make it a two-in-a-row during the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday evening.
The son of Dubai Edition out-of-Tivichey, Pak Edition registered the win on July 27 in a class five, division one and two combined handicap race in the over 1,200 metres distance. He has now been promoted and placed at nine stones four pounds, the top weight in the same class.
In spite of the big, nearly 24 pounds, leap in weight scales, he still has an edge over his rivals, who have been demoted considerably in handicap.
Since he is a different class animal on bloodline, he should produce yet another success for his owner and trainer on Sunday to rightly claim the status of one of the best three-year-old colts and fillies in Lahore at the moment.
The beautifully-bred colt, began the on going season finishing second and then first in his two outings to remain on course. War Admiral, Brave Heart and Sweet Lady may fight for places too in this fourth race of the day.
The Bahawal Plate, a class four event featuring a card of six events, will be the highlight of the meeting.
It is for the first time during the season, beginning last month that some classic animals are also taking part in the over 1,200 metres event. The gelding Zanjeer and two fillies Mythical and Miss Liza will be making their first appearance while also proving their fitness. Otherwise the mare Noor and Harry Can View should decide about the winner. Thus the event looks like an open affair.
Red Carpet, Scarlet Empress and Bubbly are prominent by their performance in the first race, the Bahawal Nagar Plate, class VI, division III and IV to be contested over the 800 metres distance.
The filly Bubbly, having won a race already, looks like the better of the three and should win the race too. The distance suits Bubbly, who had to her credit an easy win over the same distance.
Three-year-old chestnut colt Blitz, who had been beaten to second place, twice earlier, should make amends and win the second race, the Bahawal Nagar Plate, class VI, division I and II the over 800 metres distance. Dream Memories and Naseeb Apna Apna should fight for places also.
Six-year-old mare Dillagi looks good to have the better of her nine rivals in the third race to be gone over 800 metres. Her close opponent should be the bay Love Minister and the filly Philogyny. The last named, a highly bred filly, is yet to open her account on the win statistics table.
The sixth and last race comprises runners yet to shine on the course with their emphatic performances. This should be anybody’s race. A good starter may have a breakthrough to the finishing line in the short distance, over 800 metres race.
A card of six events will go through during the day/night races. Four events will be decided in the over 800 metres category and one each in over 1,000 metres and 1,200 metres.
Meanwhile, Lahore Race Club (LRC) steward Khawaja M. Arif told Dawn that Sunday’s meeting would most likely be attended by LRC chairman Tariq Aziz, who has not been coming to the races since his mother passed way about a month ago.
The first race will be held at 5.30pm.
