Heavy agenda awaits SOA meetings on 29th

By Our Sports Correspondent

KARACHI, Aug 2: More than seven months after its quadrennial elections under the supervision of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), the Sindh Olympic Association’s (SOA) executive committee and general body meet for the first time in the city on Aug 29 to address a heavy agenda. Both the meetings will be held at the Asghar Ali Stadium at 8.00pm.

The agenda circulated to members by Secretary SOA, Ahmed Ali, and envisaged 12 points need immediate measures from the SOA hierarchy to settle the dust prevailing among the cadres of sports associations.

With no penny in their kitty, the units are sitting idle and have not yet started preparations for the third Inter-Provincial Games slated in Peshawar from Nov 9 to 12.

It is pertinent to mention that Sindh finished third only ahead of Balochistan in the previous two games that were dominated by Punjab.

The NWFP will also serve as a host to the 31st National Games at Peshawar some time next year and a strategy is needed to better the mark. If deferred, a last-minute exercise will be futile.

The meetings among others will confirm the minutes of the last meetings, report of the 30th National Games held here last year, to consider and approve account report of 2005 to 2007 and 2007-2008, to consider and approve annual budget of the SOA for 2008-09, grant-in-aid to provincial sports associations for 2008-09, review the SOA constitution, affiliation of some provincial sports associations with the SOA the affairs of the provincial sports bodies.
