MULTAN, Aug 2: A global cotton village will be established at Qila Kuhna Qasim Bagh and a seminar will be held at the historical Clock Tower in connection with the world cotton conference to be held here in December.

This was decided at a meeting held between city district nazim Mian Faisal Mukhtar and Pak-Italian Chamber of Commerce president Eng Ettore Marzocchi here on Saturday to discuss modalities of the world cotton conference and an international football tournament.

It was decided that ambassadors, industrialists, farmers and agriculturists from cotton-producing countries would participate in the conference, while famous footballers – Careca and Roosi -- will be invited to the international football tournament to be held alongside Jashan-i-Baharan.

The meeting also decided that paper work to organise the conference would be completed within a week and sponsorship would be sought from Aptma, ginners, farmers and multinational companies.

The preparation process of cotton related products would be portrayed in the global village and all participating countries would establish food stalls. Delegation of chambers of commerce of various countries would also attend the conference.

Mayors of Prague and Rome would also be invited to the event.

It was also decided that a combine team of archeologists from Pakistan and Italy would be asked to conduct research on the life in the ancient Multan and archeological finds of the city.

District Nazim Mian Fasial Mukhtar said DCO Fazeel Asghar had been directed to make arrangements for the lighting, decoration and repairs of Qila Kuhna Qasim Bagh Stadium well before December. He said MDA Director General had been asked to speed up restoration work on the Clock Tower.

Mr Marzocchi said he was committed to introduce Multan as one of the oldest living cities all over the world and converting it into a tourist attraction.
