20-hour outage sparks protest in Gari Khata

HYDERABAD, Aug 2: People took to streets in Gari Khata area on Saturday and blocked different roads after their areas remained without electricity for 20 hours due to some fault in a transformer.
People burnt tyres and blocked Gari Khata road which connects it with different areas of Latifabad, Pucca Qilla and Station Road.
The protesters claimed that areas of Qadam Gah Maula Ali, Hur colony, Holmstead hall remained without power for the past 20 hours after a transformer developed some fault. They said the transformer was not replaced.
The blockade of roads caused huge traffic jams on all the link roads, causing serious difficulties to commuters.
Police and UC-9 Nazim Rashid Khan arrived at the spot and spoke to protesters.
Two shopkeepers, Rashid Khan and Mumtaz Ali, said that their area was regularly hit by power breakdowns and Hesco authorities pay no attention to their calls.
They said power outages affected their business activities as around 300 shops were located in the area.
UC nazim spoke to the SDO concerned who ensured that they would replace the faulty transformer.
VACANCIES: The Kotri Barrage Irrigation chief engineer has announced that candidates who had applied for appointments in the office of the chief engineer in July, 2008, for vacant posts have been asked to appear before the departmental selection committee.
Candidates applied for posts of stenographer BPS-12, peshimam BPS-12, tracer BPS-05, are required to appear before the committee on Aug 8, at the office of the chief engineer, Irrigation, Kotri Barrage Region, Hyderabad at 10am.
Candidates applied for the post of junior clerk BPS-07 have been asked to appear before the committee on Aug 3 at 10am at the above mentioned place.
