KARACHI, Aug 1: Sohail Tanvir may deny committing any disciplinary violations but senior officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board have spoken to the pacer on his erratic behaviour.

“We did have a word with him on Friday and we have explained to him clearly that he needs to be very careful about his behaviour,” a senior PCB official said on condition of anonymity.

The discussion with Sohail was held after the Pakistan team management, at a recent meeting of the PCB in Lahore, revealed that he was keeping late nights.

Talat Ali, the team manager, was told in clear terms by members that it was his responsibility to ensure discipline in the team. “I wouldn’t say we have reprimanded him but we have explained to him what is at stake for him if he strays again,” the official said.

Sohail, in an interview to a Gulf daily, said there had been no complaint against him and the chairman had cleared him.

When contacted, Shafqat Naghmi, Chief Operating Officer PCB, reminded board’s strict stand against indiscipline in the team, although denied to name any individual.

“I think it is in the interest of players that they should follow discipline, there is always a temptation for a new player

but as long as he can overcome that temptation, that player can go very far,” Naghmi said. —Agencies
