RAWALPINDI, Aug 1: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday suspended a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and three inspectors and gave a deadline to the police authorities to arrest the killers of a woman and her three children by August 5, official sources said.

This move came about after Mohammad Nasim, a private security guard, appealed to the chief minister to order Rawalpindi police to arrest the killers of his wife and children.

Mohammad Nasim is considered one of the witnesses to the terrorist attacks on President Pervez Musharraf’s convoy in December 2003 in Rawalpindi, sources said.

The officials who have been suspended are DSP Saddar Bairooni circle Chaudhry Mujahid Hussain and three inspectors who have been posted as station house officer (SHO) to the police station since the incident took place. The three inspectors are Riaz Hussain Shah, Mohammad Shamim Paul and Aziz Aslam. Zahida Perveen, wife of Mohammad Nasim, her sons, Mohammad Usman, 5, Mohammad Zubair, 12, and a seven-year-old daughter Iraj were found murdered in their house in the jurisdiction of Saddar Bairooni police on June 8, 2007.

Mohammad Nasim, a private security guard at a commercial bank, was on duty on the night of June 8. He found his family murdered when he returned home in the morning.

The murder of the woman and her three children had created panic among the residents of the city and had raised many questions about the police performance.

Some residents of the area said they had seen three women and a man heading towards Mohammad Nasim’s house on that night but the police were unable to trace the killers had informed the police.

DSP Mujahid Hussain is among the police officers who investigated Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case along with Scotland Yard’s team.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man was shot dead in the jurisdiction of the Ganjmandi police early Friday morning, police said.

Mohammad Ikhlaq was attending a wedding ceremony when a person named Kashif alias Kashi came there and opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.

The alleged killer escaped from the scene. Business rivalry was stated to be the reason behind the murder.

In another incident, two robbers entered the house of Raza Haidri in Khayaban-i-Sir Syed and looted Rs28,000 from the inmates.

Three persons were deprived of their vehicles from different parts of the city. Rabya Attique’s car was stolen from Westridge; Mohammad Israr’s motorcycle was taken away from Banni area while another motorcycle was stolen from Rawat.
