ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: The mess created over a decade cannot be cleared in three months and the Pakistan People’s Party will not shirk its responsibility of addressing people’s problems, says the party’s co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

He was presiding over a meeting of the party’s legislators from the NWFP and office-bearers held to discuss the law and order situation in the province and other issues.

According to PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar, the meeting was also attended by party secretary general Jehangir Bader, president of the party’s NWFP women’s wing Mehrunnissa Afridi and MNA Fauzia Habib.

Discussing issues relating to the war on terror, development projects and the working of the provincial coalition government, Mr Zardari said the coalition government had its own dynamics and it was necessary to have a clearer understanding of the dynamics for its smooth functioning.

The lawmakers briefed him on the problems they were facing.

Mr Zardari expressed the hope that the transitional period would soon be over and the coalition government’s efforts to address people’s problems would start yielding results.

Those who attended the meeting included Senior NWFP Minister Rahim Dad Khan, provincial ministers Humayun Khan, Liaquat Ali Shabab, Nawabzada Mehmood Zeb, Saleem Khan, Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah, Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Mohammad Shuja Khan, Sher Azam Khan, Habibur Rehman, Pervez Khattak, Shazia Tahmas Khan, Noor Sahar and Dr Faiza.

Also on Friday, Iranian ambassador Mashallah Shakiri called on the PPP co-chairman.

They discussed various issues, including the gas pipeline which would play an important role for the economic uplift of the two countries.

The Iranian ambassador invited the PPP co-chairman to visit Iran.
