PIA recover to beat Pakistan Steel in PPFL
By Our Sports Reporter
KARACHI, July 30: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) who lost their previous two Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches – to Karachi Port Trust and Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad – made a brilliant comeback at the Korangi Baloch Stadium on Wednesday evening by beating Pakistan Steel 4-2.
Pakistan Steel were first to score, in the match’s third minute through their striker Mohammad Akmal.
The score was equalised by PIA’s skipper Nasrullah Khan in the 14th minute, the national flag carrier airline’s first goal in the tournament.
The score was 1-1 at interval.
The 51st minute saw Pakistan Steel coming back into action when their striker Mohammad Bakhsh converted Akmal’s cross pass.
This was followed by three successive goals by PIA within a 12-minute span. First winger Nazeer Ahmed scored in the 54th minute by converting his captain’s pass, then striker Zeeshan Ali scored in the 64th minute. Two minutes later, midfielder Shakir Lashari’s solo effort changed the score to 4-2.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Steel’s striker Muhammad Akram earned two yellow cards – one in the first half and the other in the second – as a result of which he had to leave field.
